Job Title: Machine Operator Job Description

The Machine Operator safely and efficiently operates production equipment in a brick manufacturing environment, maintaining desired production rates with minimal downtime. This role requires effective communication with ground storage and making operators, basic knowledge of transfer cars and haulage systems, and a general understanding of the making area where brick is mixed and molded.

• Operate production equipment efficiently to achieve desired output rates while minimizing downtime.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area to prevent personal injury and property damage.
• Use proper safety equipment and follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LO/TO) protocols.
• Communicate clearly with ground storage and making operators using radios, telephones, and other communication tools.
• Understand and use computers and related systems for operating the setting machine.
• Use hand tools to adjust, repair, and perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment as needed.
• Perform product changeovers accurately and efficiently when switching from one product to another.
• Assist the brick machine operator as needed to support continuous and efficient production.
• Learn additional jobs within the plant and provide coverage or support in other roles when required.
• Follow all production schedules and remain flexible to work beyond designated end times on scheduled workdays, depending on production needs.
• Inspect equipment and work area regularly to identify potential issues and support troubleshooting activities.
• Support quality standards by monitoring product and equipment performance during operation.

• Proven ability to operate machines and production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with machine set-ups, changeovers, and adjustments.
• Ability to use hand tools for adjustments, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of transfer cars and haulage systems.
• General knowledge of brick making processes, including mixing and molding operations.
• Ability to understand and use computers as they relate to the operation of the setting machine.
• Capability to stand, walk, and move around the plant for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative in a production environment.
• Willingness and ability to assist other operators and work as part of a team.
• Comfort working flexible hours on scheduled days, including staying past the scheduled end time when production requires.

• Interest in learning maintenance tasks and expanding technical skills.
• Willingness to cross-train in other plant roles and support different operations as needed.
• Openness to obtaining onsite forklift certification when applicable.
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with troubleshooting production equipment.
• Attention to detail when performing inspections and changeovers.
• Strong communication skills when working with other operators and plant personnel.

This role is based in a brick masonry manufacturing facility with both indoor and outdoor work areas. The environment is very dirty, non-climate controlled, and subject to hot and cold temperatures throughout the year. Employees work around dirt, dust, and mud and must be comfortable getting their clothes dirty. Personal protective equipment is required, including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hard hat, and safety vest. The position primarily supports Plant 5, with the possibility of working between two plants in Madison as needed. Available shifts include a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with potential to work until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. depending on production) and a 12-hour day shift from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on a 2-2-3 schedule, with work continuing until production is complete. On scheduled workdays, employees should consider themselves unavailable for other commitments, as end times can vary based on production demands.

This is a Permanent position based out of Madison, NC.

The pay range for this position is $31200.00 - $39520.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Madison,NC.
