Mechanical Assembler

Experienced Mechanical AssemblerSerco is looking for experienced mechanical assemblers to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy in Newport News, VA. The experienced mechanical assemblers will be on a dynamic team, supporting our C5ISR system installations. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors.In this role, you will:Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions and reporting malfunctions.Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field.Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation.Work with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.To be successful in these roles, you will have:High school diploma or equivalent.The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.The ability to obtain an OSHA certification.The ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.A minimum of 5 years of experience using power tools, assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.The ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.5 years of shipboard experience.5 years of combined experience in the following areas:Read drawings (Beginner)Drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench (without supervision)Assist with HAZMAT control & safetyAbility to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipmentDrill holes (with supervision)Operate light machinery/ equipmentPosition, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sectionsAbility to follow directions of senior employeesCarry equipment & clean spacesRemove lagging & paintAbility to follow directions of senior employeesExperience with reading drawings. (Beginner level)Demonstrated ability to working with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.Experience in the fabrication and precision assembly of various mechanical assemblies.The ability to work second, or thirds shift as needed and willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.Attention to safety (which is critical)The willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites.Additional desired experience and skills:An active DoD Secret ClearanceAn OSHA Certification
