Responsible for the maintenance and construction of water lines throughout the cityEssential Functions And Other Important DutiesEssential Functions:Under general supervision, proficiently operates one or more types of light to medium sized motorized construction/maintenance equipment (i.e. warehouse/interior forklift, bobcat, backhoe, compressor, riding-compactor, vehicle for running errands, small water truck, small dump truck and utility truck) to excavate, move and/or grade material.Operates larger motorized equipment as neededPerforms various skilled duties using hand and power toolsPerforms pre-inspections and post-inspections of all equipment and trucks before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and cleaning of equipment, and reports problems to supervisorMay set up street barricades and function as a flagger for traffic controlMay perform duties in a confined space such as a manhole or trenchMay confer with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisorMaintains on-call availability for after hour emergenciesMaintain regular and punctual on-site attendanceAdditional Duties:Performs other duties as assignedJob RequirementsMinimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:High school diploma or GED equivalentClass A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of employmentMust have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License from within twelve (12) months of employmentMust have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collections Operator License from within twelve (12) months of employmentORAny combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the jobCore Competencies:Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customersAbility to read and understand reference books and complicated procedures such as utility plans and equipment operation manualsAbility to operate backhoe, skid steer loader and dump truckPreferences:Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishPossess TCEQ Class D Water Distribution LicenseExperience in the operation of equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair function of water utilitiesConditions Of Employment:Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employmentMust possess or obtain a valid TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License from within twelve (12) months of employmentMust possess and obtain a valid TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collections Operator License from within twelve (12) months of employmentMust pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification checkMust pass a physical examinationMust be able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekendsMust be able to lift up to 100 lbs.Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditionsEnvironmental Factors And Conditions/Physical RequirementsPhysical Requirements:Sedentary lifting no more than 10 poundsLight lifting no more than 20 pounds; carry up to 10 poundsMedium lifting no more than 50 pounds, carry up to 25 poundsHeavy lifting no more than 100 pounds, carry up to 50 poundsVery Heavy lifting more than 100 pounds, carry more than 50 poundsPhysical Demand Codes:Standing: ESitting: EWalking: ELifting: MCarrying: MPushing/Pulling: IOverhead Work: MFine Dexterity: MKneeling: MCrouching: MCrawling: IBending: MTwisting: MClimbing: MBalancing: MVision: EHearing: ETalking: EVideo Display: IOther:Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:The essential functions of this position require the use of light to medium sized motorized equipment such as dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, flushing and vacuum truck, etc; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by City of Denton that may include gloves, hard hat, safety goggles/eye protection, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, and uniforms.
