Job DescriptionThe R&D team is seeking an exceptionally talented and passionate individual to help us identify and implement innovative solutions to address current and future health care needs in the Vascular Access markets. Within BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Research & Development, the associate in this position will be part of the Salt Lake City R&D team. Our R&D Engineers are responsible for developing and implementing new product designs, product improvements, and critical component changes for disposable and durable medical devices.This position assists the R&D Engineering Teams in designing, developing, and implementing new products, processes, test methods and equipment. This position is also responsible for system development and improvement, along with managing projects with divisional impact.Job ResponsibilitiesLead the design, development, and testing of new medical devices and product enhancements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and design verification/validation activities for new products.Develop and implement innovative solutions to complex technical challenges in material selection, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes.Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to define product requirements and ensure successful product launch.Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on R&D projects.Generate detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, test protocols, and reports.Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and competitive landscape to inform product development strategies.Participate in intellectual property development and patent applications.Support post-market surveillance and continuous improvement activities for existing products.*The duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. Required Skills/ExperienceBachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.8+ years of progressive experience in medical device research and development within a regulated industry (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).Demonstrated experience leading complex R&D projects from concept to commercialization.Strong understanding of design control principles and regulatory requirements for medical devices.Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and simulation tools.Experience with various manufacturing processes relevant to medical devices (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, machining, assembly).Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to diverse audiences.Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.Proven hands-on execution of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) as part of DFSS and DFM activities to drive design optimization and robust product development..Physical Demands:This position is in an office and laboratory environment and requires the incumbent to sit, stand and perform general office functions. The incumbent may also be required to lift up to twenty-five pounds occasionally. The incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods.
