Executive Director

Journey of Flight is seeking an experienced and ambitious leader to join the organisation as Executive Director, helping turn its vision for a new aviation, space and cyber experience in San Antonio into reality. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead the organisation through strategic planning, fundraising and execution as Journey of Flight works to raise funding and develop a state-of-the-art experience centre celebrating San Antonio's military, aviation and cyber history. The role has oversight of the physical and experiential development of the project, including fundraising, programming and exhibits, community and educational partnerships, museum operations and finances. A major focus will be development and fundraising. The Executive Director will develop and execute annual and capital campaigns, with the organisation seeking an initial $200 million in funding , while also securing income to support ongoing operating expenses. The successful candidate will develop relationships with community organisations, national interest groups, other non-profits, funders, private foundations, educational organisations, Port San Antonio and relevant departments of the US Air Force and Space Force. They will also work closely with the Board, reporting on development, programming, finances, staffing and community affairs, as well as preparing the organisation's annual operating budget and fundraising plan. Local and national travel is required. Interestingly, the advert doesn't specify a particular degree or formal educational qualification , so I wouldn't invent one for the Qualification field. For Experience / requirements , I would use: Previous experience developing and executing strategic and tactical plans for a semi-startup non-profit organisation. Previous non-profit experience launching significant national capital campaigns raising more than $200 million is preferred . Thorough understanding of Texas fundraising, marketing and taxation rules. Ability to obtain any licences required for fundraising activities in Texas and other states. Passion for aerospace, defence, space, technology and cybersecurity, together with an interest in inspiring young people and adults to pursue careers in aerospace and defence. Strong leadership, fundraising, programme management, stakeholder engagement and advocacy capabilities. So for the Qualification box specifically, I'd put “Not specified” if your system allows it, rather than trying to turn the experience requirements into a qualification.
