Faculty- Mathematics
Otero College
1. Teach mathematics courses including, but not limited to: all levels of Algebra, Introduction to Statistics, Trigonometry, Calculus and other math courses deemed necessary.
2. Assist in planning and curriculum development.
3. Teach using different modalities (online, in-person, hybrid)
4. Offer student advising and outreach to communities served by Otero Junior College.
5. Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and campus activities.
6. Demonstrate competent leadership abilities; maintain positive interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff and students.
7. Perform additional responsibilities consistent with the mission of the College
8. Be creative and committed to teaching excellence and have the willingness to improve student learning by assessing student program and campus learning outcomes.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Math and Science Department Chair and Vice President of Academic Affairs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Faculty and instructors must meet one of the following three minimum criteria:
- Master’s degree or higher in the course discipline, content area, or prefix . ( Documentation must include the discipline of the degree.)
- Master’s degree or higher in another discipline, content area, or prefix, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the course discipline, content area, or prefix. (Documentation must include the discipline of the degree and graduate courses completed.)
- Documented applicable experience to include “a”, “b”, or “c” below:
a) A bachelor’s degree with the intent to complete a master’s degree within three years. Progress towards the degree should be measurable and reported annually.
b) Applicable experience in the discipline (employment etc.) equivalent to 2or more years beyond bachelor’s level, depending on level of course, which includes a breadth and depth of experience outside of the classroom in real-world situations relevant to the discipline in which the faculty member or instructor would be teaching.
c) Two or more of the following:
i. A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9-15 graduate credit hours completed in the course discipline, content area, or prefix.
ii. Teaching experience at the college level in the course discipline, content area, or prefix, and documentation of related professional development (e.g., publications, presentations, mentorship, etc.).
iii. Discipline-specific certifications or credentials at a post-secondary level, or specialized advanced experience relevant to the course discipline, content area, or prefix. Evidence of specialized credentials may include significant invited performances (e.g., galley shows, guest conductor, director, or performer experiences).
(Documentation must include two of the above statements and related evidence.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- Experience with educational technology and a willingness to continue to learn and incorporate educational technology.
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Willingness to teach a varied schedule including evenings, weekends and summer.
- Educational philosophy in alignment with that of a small rural, comprehensive Community College and enthusiasm for this type of environment and the aspirations of its people.
