Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for managing compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other federal environmental legislation. The incumbent manages the production of NEPA documents and functions as the overall compliance coordinator managing all aspects of the compliance process for the preserve.

The incumbent participates in formulating recommendations to the responsible management officials on the use, management and development of park resources. In fulfilling this role, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation of plans, reports, position papers, policy statements and memorandums.

Prepares and presents professional oral or written briefings on environmental issues to the supervisor, superintendent, and/or regional staff.

The incumbent may provide other planning assistance to meet the requirements of the Superintendent's Office, the Regional Office, or WASO, including site analysis, compliance with accessibility requirements, support of the completion of park permits and agreements for implementation of approved projects following the compliance process.

Plans and executes innovative solutions and techniques for the correction of environmental pollution problems. Provides recommendations on correct environmental compliance procedures for developments or activities relating to park projects or programs involving environmental compliance issues and procedures.

Monitors activities for compliance with Federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies, as well as seeking to prevent NPS from incurring liability as a responsible party.

Responsible for the organization of all pertinent records, including Administrative record keeping for NEPA documents.
