Pharmacist

Position Overview

Responsible for performing the duties of a licensed Pharmacist while ensuring compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This role is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of medications and merchandise, ensuring accuracy in prescription fulfillment, and providing professional consultation to customers and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain established procedures for quality assurance, security, inventory control of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
• Receive and review prescriptions issued by practitioners to ensure accuracy, appropriateness of medication, and proper formulation requirements.
• Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal laws governing pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical distribution.
• Provide customers with information regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and medication storage.
• Consult with prescribers as needed to clarify or interpret prescription information.
• Ensure pharmacy stock and supplies are properly ordered, stored, and managed in the absence of the Lead Pharmacist or manager, as needed.
• Prepare, compound, and dispense medications ordered by authorized prescribers.
• Offer counseling to customers regarding the use of medical devices, including blood pressure monitors and diabetes monitoring equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs within the pharmacy.
• Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, labeling, securing, and properly disposing of pharmaceuticals in accordance with legal and company requirements.

Required Qualifications

• BA/BS in Pharmacy or PharmD.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Pharmacist, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Active Registered Pharmacist license.
• Active North Carolina (NC) Pharmacist License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of retail pharmacy experience.
• Experience with pharmacy adjudication platforms.
• Bilingual skills.
• For Carelon Health positions, National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) verification as required by applicable state guidelines.

• Work Location: Onsite, 5 days per week (including clinics)
• Medication Access: Yes; worker may work in a care center, assisted living facility, clinic, member home, or have access to medication.
