Police Civilian Investigator

Job Overview The Civilian Asset Forfeiture Investigator is responsible for identifying, documenting and managing assets connected to criminal activity, investigating financial records, property ownership, and other evidence to determine if assets were obtained through or used in criminal conduct. The investigator works with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office in forfeiture proceedings and is assigned to the Special Investigation Section within the Special Investigation Division. Salary Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid‑point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is $35.58 per hour or $74,006.40 annually. Responsibilities Investigate financial records, property ownership, and other evidence to determine if assets were obtained through or used in criminal conduct. Work with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office in forfeiture proceedings related to those items. Collect data or information from various sources. Create and review Court Orders and Search Warrants and complete required paperwork. Assist investigative supervisors with responsibilities in the Records Management System (RMS). Impound property or evidence. Create, update, or maintain spreadsheets, timelines, or other digital records. Attend court hearings to testify to job duties, including investigations, reports, etc. Manage, prioritize, and organize an investigative caseload. Education and Experience Associate’s Degree from an accredited educational institution. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application. Three years of investigative experience in law enforcement. An equivalent combination of education and job‑related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year‑for‑year basis. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. Obtain and maintain an Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) certification. Training is provided on duty and certification testing is completed within the first six months of hire. Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale must reside in the State of Arizona during active employment. Physical Demands and Work Environment Exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, inclement weather, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, body fluids, hazardous chemicals, firearms, various evidence, unpleasant odors. Move objects weighing 50 pounds or less short and long distances. Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Visually distinguish full range of color spectrum. Read maps. Visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle, computer equipment, and two‑way radio, maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area. Utilize two‑way radio to hear and respond to radio communications, voice instructions, and/or commands. Use appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) when needed/required.
