Description
Functions under the direct supervision of medical providers and delegation by registered nurses in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in an outpatient primary care clinic. This role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities, including patient intake, basic clinical procedures, phlebotomy, care coordination, and ensuring efficient clinic flow. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of safe and appropriate patient care. Performs patient care within the scope of preparation of a medical assistant and under the guidance of Sandia Pueblo clinic policies and procedures. Room patients and obtain vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, pain evaluation, temperature, height, weight, and body mass index). Record medical history, medications, allergies, and chief complaints in the electronic health records. Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during patient visits. Perform basic clinical procedures including, but not limited to, phlebotomy, medication administration (including injections), EKGs, point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, strep, urine dip, influenza, COVID). Prepares and administers vaccination according to the Vaccine for Children's Program. Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients following infection control protocols. Provide basic patient education on medications, treatments, and preventive care under the direction of registered nurse, clinic nurse manager, or medical provider. Support chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) under the direction of the clinic registered nurse, clinic nurse manager, or medical provider. Schedule patient appointments, handle phone calls, patient messages, and prescription refill requests. Document accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with Sandia Pueblo guidelines. Coordinate referrals, labs, imaging, and follow-up care under the direction of registered nurse, nurse manager, or medical provider. Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality via demonstrating the ability to respect and protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA law(s). Stocks and maintains inventory to ensure adequate medical supplies under the direction of the clinic nurse manager. Assist in quality improvement initiatives. Utilize good listening and communication skills to understand and respect patient concerns and wishes during the care planning process. Maintain clear, effective communication with the medical clinic team, other departments, Indian Health Service, and outside providers as needed. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned schedule each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo of Sandia.

This position has Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) identified as a measurement of success. KPI's will be shared with all team members who work in this job title and feedback will be provided regarding the successful completion of the KPI's as part of the performance review process.

Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and PSHC team members. Ability to perform physical requirements of the position (see 'Working Conditions'). Ability to render basic First Aid and CPR. Ability to learn new skills and information as needed. Knowledge of tribal health concerns and available community resources. Knowledge of PSHC policies and procedures. Knowledge of safety regulations, standards and practices. Skill in relating to patients and other staff. Ability to recognize abnormal symptoms and/or identify problems in adults and children and report them to a provider on behalf of the patient as soon as possible. Ability to advocate for the patient during medical appointments. Ability to demonstrate dependability, i.e. compliance with established work schedules. Ability to work a flexible schedule with days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Ability to read and write adequately to complete required documentation and interpret all written communication from PSHC Health Center supervisors or administrators. Knowledge of the community or population to be served preferable or extensive multi-cultural experience.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required: High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. (6) months experience in an outpatient/family practice/primary care clinic. Phlebotomy - one (1) year of experience. Preferred: Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program. (1) year of experience in an outpatient/family practice/primary care clinic. Experience in a tribal healthcare setting. Knowledge and experience in administering adult and children's vaccination.
License/Certifications/Registrations
Current CPR and First Aid certifications. The following immunizations and titers are required prior to employment start date: Hepatitis B series or immune by titer Tdap MMR or immune by titer Annual TB test Annual Flu vaccination (seasonal) COVID booster (optional but encouraged) Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation and character investigation in compliance with PL 101.630. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.
