Retail Security Officer

The Retail Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for shoppers, tenants, employees, and visitors within a high-traffic retail mall. This position requires strong customer service skills, sound judgment, and the ability to respond professionally to security incidents, emergencies, and day-to-day operational needs. Officers conduct routine patrols, enforce property policies, deter criminal activity, and work closely with mall management, tenants, and local emergency responders.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous security, law enforcement, military, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license (if required by site).
• Ability to obtain and maintain all required state security licenses and certifications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent observation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable working with security technology, including CCTV, access control, and report-writing software.
• Basic computer proficiency.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a large retail property.
• Ability to climb stairs and patrol multiple levels of the facility.
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Capable of responding quickly during emergency situations.

Work Environment:

• Large indoor/outdoor retail shopping center.
• Fast-paced environment with heavy pedestrian traffic.
• May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.
• Frequent interaction with the public, retail tenants, contractors, and emergency responders.
