Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) | Location: Carmel, IN - Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite | Contract | Hourly Pay Range $40-$50

Join a Quality Management organization supporting healthcare technology solutions used by healthcare professionals to enable more informed, consistent, and effective decision-making. In this contract SDET role, you'll design and evolve test automation frameworks and CI/CD automation while partnering with Agile teams to improve testability and quality across web applications, APIs, SDKs, services, and microservices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and enhance reusable test automation frameworks, libraries, utilities, and testing tools
• Develop automated test cases and supporting code across web applications, APIs, SDKs, services, and microservices
• Expand regression, integration, API/service, and end-to-end automation coverage
• Collaborate with software engineers to review technical designs and code, improve application testability, and troubleshoot complex issues
• Apply programming fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, debugging, and code analysis) to identify root causes and resolve quality issues
• Plan, develop, and execute automated and manual testing strategies within Agile development teams
• Perform static reviews and execute unit, module, integration, performance, load, and system testing
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, supporting pipeline-as-code, branching strategies, and code coverage analysis
• Evaluate and recommend testing tools, automation frameworks, CI/CD solutions, and quality engineering practices
• Use approved AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve test coverage, automation maintenance, defect triage, root-cause analysis, documentation, and reporting
• Create, configure, and evaluate AI agents or workflow automations that support recurring SDET and quality engineering activities
• Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy while protecting sensitive information and applying sound engineering judgment
• Provide project estimates, testing status updates, documentation, work instructions, and technical guidance to stakeholders
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve automation efficiency, software quality, and engineering productivity

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS, CIS, or a related technical discipline
• Hands-on experience developing automated tests and/or automation frameworks
• Experience testing web applications, APIs, SDKs, services, and/or microservices
• Experience with automated testing tools (Selenium preferred)
• Experience testing REST and/or SOAP APIs
• Experience working with SQL and database tools
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, code coverage, performance testing, and load testing
• Agile software development or testing experience
• Strong understanding of application source code and software development concepts
• Experience reading, reviewing, and debugging code written in C#, .NET, Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, or similar languages
• Experience with tools such as Selenium, Jenkins, GitHub, Visual Studio, Eclipse, SQL Server Management Studio, or comparable technologies
• Ability and willingness to responsibly use AI-assisted development and testing tools
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated output, identify incorrect assumptions, and validate results before use
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively across development, product, and quality teams
• Comfort working in cross-functional and matrixed Agile environments
• Hybrid schedule: 3 days per week onsite in Carmel, IN

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with prompt writing, workflow automation, or AI-assisted coding
• Prior AI experience (not required with strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn)
• Certifications related to SDET, test automation, software development, cloud, DevOps, ISTQB CTFL, or AI technologies
