Location: Washington, DC 20433 (Hybrid)

Workplace Type: Hybrid (4 days per week onsite from Day 1)

Job Type: Contract (8 Months – Long-Term)

Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Python Developer for an 8-month long-term contract opportunity in Washington, DC 20433. In this role, you will play a critical part in modernizing legacy systems by analyzing complex Excel-based business logic and migrating them into robust, high-performance Python codebases.

Primary Responsibilities:

Requirement Analysis:

Review, analyze, and understand existing complex Excel-based calculations, macros, formulas, and data flows.
Identify key functionalities and business logic embedded within spreadsheets.
Collaborate closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and clarify ambiguities.

Code Conversion & Optimization:

Convert Excel-based calculations into clean, efficient Python code, ensuring absolute accuracy and consistency.
Optimize Python code for performance, scalability, and robust error handling/validation.

Testing & Validation:

Develop and execute comprehensive test cases to validate the performance and accuracy of the new Python scripts.
Rigorously compare Python outputs against original Excel calculations to ensure 100% data consistency, troubleshooting and resolving discrepancies as needed.

Documentation & Best Practices:

Document existing Excel frameworks as well as the new Python code (including inline comments, user guides, and technical specifications).
Maintain an organized repository for all project documentation and adhere to industry best practices for version control and clean coding.

Key Requirements & Qualifications:

Proven professional experience as a Python Developer with a strong portfolio of backend or data-migration projects.
Strong ability to deconstruct legacy Excel models (formulas, macros, data flows) and translate them into scalable code.
Experience implementing robust error handling, validation, and performance optimization in Python.
Excellent documentation and stakeholder collaboration skills.
