Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure financial records are accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Mentor and train junior accounting staff, including explaining specific tasks, strengthening technical understanding, supporting projects, and providing constructive feedback.
Ensure journal entries and account reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule.
Assist in leading weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Prepare and review journal entries, supporting schedules, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
Develop a strong understanding of project and cost accounting methodologies and apply them to financial and operational reporting.
Prepare financial and operational analyses of job performance, including operational and cost efficiency compared with bids and prior results.
Develop profitability forecasts and provide insights into areas of financial risk and opportunity.
Coordinate with the Controller and Operations teams on estimates of job reserves.
Understand the purpose and design of established internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Identify and correct instances of noncompliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures and escalate concerns when necessary.
Assist with maintenance of the general ledger system and related accounting activities.
Serve as a subject matter expert on available accounting reporting tools and report creation.
Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation.
Prepare and coordinate information required for the fiscal year-end financial statement audit.
Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards.
Serve as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, manage expectations, and deliver results aligned with company goals.
Manage end-to-end accounting workstreams with minimal supervision while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
Foster team collaboration and commitment to shared goals.
Help team members prioritize competing responsibilities and identify opportunities for coaching and development.
Analyze complex problems to identify root causes and develop viable solutions based on data and best practices.
Support the design and implementation of process improvements and transformation initiatives.
Communicate accounting issues, concerns, analyses, and recommendations clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
Quickly learn emerging software and business systems and independently support system configuration and testing when needed.
Lead and support special projects and perform other duties as assigned by management.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
4–6 years of accounting experience, including experience in a lead technical role.
Experience with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial analyses.
Ability to support weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.
Ability to develop a strong understanding of project and cost accounting methodologies.
Ability to analyze job performance, cost efficiency, profitability, financial risks, and opportunities.
Experience maintaining accurate, organized, and audit-ready financial documentation.
Ability to understand established internal controls, policies, and procedures and identify areas of noncompliance.
Ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and relevance while managing multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
Ability to manage end-to-end workstreams with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and deliver results aligned with company objectives.
Ability to mentor, train, coach, and support junior accounting team members.
Ability to learn new software and business systems quickly.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook, and relevant business systems.
Ability to:
Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
Reach and perform repetitive computing tasks regularly.
Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs.
Occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs.
Communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through virtual platforms.
Review financial documents, reports, analyses, and computer screens for extended periods.
Travel occasionally by ground and/or air transportation, including overnight stays.
Regularly: Standing, walking, sitting for extended periods, reaching, reviewing financial information, and performing repetitive computing tasks.
Occasionally: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs, lifting or moving up to 25 lbs., and traveling by ground and/or air transportation, including overnight stays.
