Senior Project Accountant – ConstructionSouthern Contracting is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Project Accountant – Construction with strong public accounting experience to support financial operations across heavy civil and commercial construction projects.This role is ideal for an accounting professional who has built a solid foundation in public accounting and is ready to apply that expertise within a dynamic, project-based environment.You will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting job cost tracking, managing vendor compliance, and contributing to monthly close processes. This is a hands-on position working closely with leadership and project teams to ensure financial integrity across multiple active projects.Key ResponsibilitiesProcess and code vendor invoices accurately within the accounting systemManage weekly check runs, ACH payments, and reconciliationsMaintain precise job cost tracking across active construction projectsSupport monthly and year-end close processesPrepare and post general ledger entriesAssist with financial reporting and account reconciliationsMaintain subcontractor and vendor compliance documentation (W-9s, COIs, contracts)Collaborate with project managers to monitor budgets and cost performanceEnsure internal controls and financial reporting standards are upheldRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMust have experience working for a CPA FirmPublic accounting experience required (2+ years preferred)Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standardsExperience with general ledger accounting and reconciliationsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft ExcelHigh attention to detail and strong analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyStrong written and verbal communication skillsConstruction accounting experience is a plus but not required for candidates with solid public accounting backgrounds.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary: $80,000 – $105,000 (based on experience)100% company-paid employee healthcare premiums401(k) Safe Harbor plan with fully vested employer matchPaid Time Off and paid holidaysGrowth opportunity within a fast-growing organizationExposure to high-impact, multi-million-dollar construction projectsWork EnvironmentFast-growing heavy civil & commercial construction companyCollaborative, team-oriented cultureStable leadership with a long-term growth visionOn-site position in Memphis, TN.Equal Employment OpportunityWe are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
