Project Manager / Estimator – Industrial Construction

UIG Tank Systems is seeking an experienced, hands-on Project Manager / Estimator to join our growing in-house construction team.

For more than 55 years, UIG has worked in the industrial tank and critical infrastructure industry. As we continue to expand our self-perform construction capabilities, we are looking for someone who takes ownership, gets things done, and is motivated by seeing projects successfully move from drawings and estimates into the field.

This is a position for a doer . We want someone who identifies what needs to happen, follows through, solves problems, and keeps projects moving. The right candidate will be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with our operations, engineering, field, supplier, and subcontractor teams.

The position is based at our office in Lake Forest, California, near the 241 Toll Road .

What You'll Do

• Review plans, specifications, and drawings to clearly define project scope and requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for concrete, reinforcing steel, formwork, anchor bolts, aggregates, and related materials.
• Develop accurate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and other project cost estimates.
• Identify scope gaps, constructability issues, potential risks, and cost-saving opportunities before they become field problems.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare and support competitive bids, proposals, budgets, and project planning.
• Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and project meetings as required.
• Coordinate with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, field personnel, and company management.
• Assist with project schedules, procurement, cost tracking, documentation, and field coordination.
• Monitor project progress and proactively address issues that could affect schedule, cost, quality, or completion.
• Follow projects through—making sure commitments, deadlines, and action items don't fall through the cracks.
• Help UIG continually improve its estimating, planning, and self-perform construction processes.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines construction knowledge with initiative and accountability .

The successful candidate doesn't wait to be told about every next step. You should be comfortable taking a set of drawings or a project challenge, determining what needs to be done, asking the right questions, and driving the work toward a result.

Candidates should have:

• 3+ years of estimating, project management, or closely related experience in industrial or heavy civil construction.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural and civil drawings and specifications.
• Working knowledge of concrete foundations, reinforcing steel, formwork, anchor bolts, and related construction methods.
• Strong estimating, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines without losing attention to detail.
• Strong follow-through and a willingness to take ownership of problems through resolution.
• Ability to work primarily in-office with our team in Lake Forest.

Preferred Experience

Experience with the following is a plus:

• Industrial, water/wastewater, tank, or heavy civil construction.
• Bid preparation, estimating, and project management.
• Self-perform construction operations.
• Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar scheduling/project management software.
• Microsoft Excel.
• AutoCAD and the ability to work with construction drawings and technical documentation.

Position Details

This position reports to the Vice President of Project Management and works closely with a small, experienced team. Local travel to project sites, site walks, and meetings is required as needed.

As UIG expands its self-perform construction operations, this position offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and grow into a Senior Project Manager role.
