Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Per Diem, Nights (Culver City) - 10178

Position Summary The Emergency Medical Technician will perform a variety of functions which are in support of and directly related to care of patients requiring urgent or emergency care in the Emergency Department. Primary duties include EKGs, splinting, taking and recording vital signs, ensuring the safety of the patient, and maintaining a clean and safe unit environment. Assists with stocking unit supplies, operating hospital equipment as directed, performing routine clerical tasks, and assisting with other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent Demonstrated prior patient care experience Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) AHA Basic Life Support Understanding of basic medical terminology Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job De-escalation certification upon hire; Upon recertification, SAMA Certification required Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only) Preferred Qualifications One year experience in an acute care facility SAMA Certification upon hire Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families Physical Requirements These are requirements normally expected to perform regular job duties. REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION OF CARE: Accurately measures and records patient weights and vital signs. Recognizes and reports changes in the patient's condition, takes appropriate action and accurately documents all activities as required. Receives and accurately inventories and secures patient belongings as appropriate. PATIENT COMFORT AND PRIVACY: Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), in consideration of patient age, gender, culture and stated preferences, maintaining patient privacy and respect at all times. Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe environment. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance. COLLABORATION FOR PATIENT CARE: Assists with patient care activities as directed by licensed nurse, including EKGs, splinting, crutches, wound care, specimen collection/transport, turning and positioning, and patient transportation. EQUIPMENT AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT: Manages inventory to ensure the availability of equipment and supplies and communicates usage and availability information as appropriate. Establishes a mechanism to retrieve non-stock items and follows through to ensure timely delivery. Keeps accurate inventory documentation of equipment and maintains PAR levels COMMUNICATION: Actively engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes a proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making. Base Pay Rate: Min - $23.66 l Max - $23.66 12HR Pay Rate: Min - $27.60 | Max - $27.60 Note: These rates are referred to as 12-hour rates; the rate is calculated by averaging 8-hours at the base rate of pay, and 4-hours of overtime.
