CDL School Bus and Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

This is a hands-on role where you'll keep our fleet running safely and efficiently — making a real difference in the lives of students and riders every day. Responsibilities: Perform routine preventive maintenance on school buses and fleet vehicles, including oil changes, brake inspections, and fluid checks Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on diesel-powered vehicles Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure DOT and safety compliance Repair or replace worn or defective parts including engines, transmissions, and suspension components Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records for all fleet vehicles Respond to road calls and perform emergency roadside repairs as needed Collaborate with dispatch and operations to minimize vehicle downtime Requirements: Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) required 2+ years of experience in diesel engine repair and fleet maintenance Experience with school buses or commercial vehicles strongly preferred Working knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle safety standards Ability to diagnose issues using computerized diagnostic tools and equipment Must supply own basic hand tools Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a safety-first mindset About Us: Ammons Transportation Service Inc has been a trusted name in transportation in the Chicago area, committed to providing safe, reliable service to the communities we serve.
