Wound Ostomy Nurse

Functions as the clinical resource for patients and staff for ostomy, continence disorders, acute and chronic wounds, skin breakdown, and fistulae. Provides direct wound and ostomy care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides patient and family teaching and instruction of wound and ostomy management both pre and post-operatively. Assists the healthcare team in the evaluation of skin and wound products and equipment. Provides educational programs, in-services, and bedside teaching for nursing staff. Stays up-to-date with skin care practices and shares advances in wound and skin care assessments, evaluations, treatments, and prevention measures. Assesses all patients with pressure injuries staged at Three or above. Sees all patients who have developed a hospital-acquired pressure injury and meets appropriate reporting requirements. Assesses overall hospital needs and practices to eliminate hospital-acquired pressure injuries. Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills. Exhibits knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Exemplifies strong job knowledge, patient counseling, and business acumen. Maintains trust and accountability in professional relationships. Demonstrates the ability to handle technology and equipment relevant to wound and ostomy care. Ability to demonstrate innovation and ensure customer satisfaction.
