Staff Accountant

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a confidential client to recruit a Staff Accountant for its accounting and finance team. Reporting to the Controller, this position will support daily accounting operations, sales reporting, cash and credit card reconciliations, sales tax filings, and general ledger accuracy.

This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys investigating discrepancies, maintaining accurate financial records, and collaborating with a team.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Reporting

Reconcile daily and monthly sales activity between financial and point-of-sale systems.
Perform regular data validation and quality checks to maintain accurate sales reporting.
Identify, research, and resolve reporting discrepancies.

Cash and Credit Card Reconciliations

Reconcile cash, credit card, and third-party receipts to daily sales reports.
Investigate payment variances and coordinate resolution with the appropriate teams.
Ensure complimentary transactions, house accounts, gift certificates, and other receipts are recorded correctly.

Bank Reconciliations

Perform weekly bank reconciliations and investigate differences.
Ensure cash balances are accurately reflected in the accounting system.
Prepare and post approved adjusting journal entries as needed.

Sales Tax

Prepare and file accurate monthly sales tax returns on time.
Support compliance with applicable state and local sales tax requirements.
Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts to amounts paid and outstanding balances.

General Ledger Support

Reconcile general ledger accounts, including accounts receivable.
Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Research account discrepancies and support timely resolution.
Collaborate with the accounting team to support accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications

Degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience, preferred.
Previous restaurant or retail accounting experience is a plus.
Knowledge of general ledger software and accounting reconciliations.
Strong computer skills and familiarity with web-based applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read and write in English.
Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and collaborate professionally with others.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
Integrity, professionalism, and a positive approach to working with colleagues and business partners.

Schedule

Availability to work 40–45 hours per week is required.
