Mental Health CounselorThe Office of Counseling Services at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants to apply for a full-time, grant-funded, exempt, position. The position will report to the Director of the University Counseling Center. The Mental Health Counselor provides culturally competent intake assessments, triage appointments, crisis intervention, case management, solution-focused individual therapy, group therapy and conflict resolution strategies.Benefits: UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. Some evening and weekend hours required as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work, or related field with a clinical track.One-year post-graduate clinical experience.Experience working with transitional age adults.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make ethical, clinically informed decisions.Capacity to handle stressful or complex clinical situations with professionalism and compassion.Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.Physical Demands:May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.May require lifting up to 25 lbs.Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.Preferences:Experience providing counseling services to college-aged adults in a college or university counseling center.Experience in clinical supervision of trainees or early-career professionals.Ability to work effectively with clients presenting with severe emotional disturbances.Licenses/Certifications:Maryland license or license eligible within the state within six (6) months of employment.
