Pharmacy Technician

Assists with operational and all distribution responsibilities as they are related to Pharmacy Technician functions including Orlando Health software and hardware systems. Responsibilities include demonstrating an understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures. Familiarity with the hospital mission, personnel policies, philosophy, goals, customer service, and objectives of the Pharmacy and Orlando Health is required. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to identify and utilize resources and departments for customer service and patient care, based upon need, availability, and responsibility of resources. Operating equipment required for pharmacy procedures consistent with operating instructions, safety regulations, and policy and procedures is also necessary. Performing the basic Pharmacy Technician procedures required by the assigned area consistent with scientific principles, policy, and procedures is essential. The role includes performing the basic buyer procedures including drug procurement required by the department and consistent with departmental principles and Orlando Health policies and procedures. Accurately assisting the Pharmacist in all duties pertaining to the medication distribution including proper aseptic techniques for admixture of various types of medication (e.g. chemotherapy) and functionally performing tasks/procedures associated with automated dispensing cabinets is required. Maintaining USP 797 standards and other regulatory required documentation, safe handling, and proper disposal requirements is also part of the role. The candidate is responsible for special project completion as assigned, participating in the training of new pharmacy technicians if needed, maintaining advanced expertise in and actively covering technician services in a specialized practice area (e.g. medication history acquisition) depending on the needs of the department, maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, and maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. The candidate must maintain current Pharmacy Technician registration with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy. Experience greater than one year up to four (4) of experience as a pharmacy technician is required.
