RN Orthopedic Neurology Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse on the Ortho/Neuro Unit is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members. This role includes administering medications and treatments, developing individualized patient care plans, documenting care according to standards, and participating in performance improvement activities. The nurse will apply clinical expertise and critical thinking to ensure patient safety and quality care in a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing techniques and policies.
• Document patient care and progress in compliance with standards of care and legal requirements.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient care plans including patient and family education.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units or departments supporting the patient's longitudinal plan of care.
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and escalate concerns appropriately.
• May be required to float to other units as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience preferred.
• Education verification required.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient care planning skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in orthopedics or neurology nursing preferred.
• Experience with performance improvement and shared governance initiatives.
• Ability to provide clinical guidance to other units.

Special Considerations:

• Travel Registered Nurses may be required to float to other units.
• Must work every other weekend and holidays.
• Adherence to hospital policies and state nursing practice acts is mandatory.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Schedule includes every other weekend and holiday shifts.
