PURPOSE

The Special Services Supervisor of Instruction, Achievement, and Assistive Technology provides leadership, consultation, and technical expertise to district and school teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality special education services. This position supports special and general education staff in the areas of assistive technology, instructional programming, effective teaching practices, IEP development, and compliance with special education requirements. Through direct and indirect support, the Supervisor works to strengthen student access to curriculum, improve achievement outcomes, promote independence, and ensure effective educational programming for students with disabilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Special Services Supervisor works under the direction of the Special Services Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assistive Technology & Student Support

• Assist staff in identifying, selecting, and implementing low- and high-tech assistive technology (AT) to support student learning and independence
• Provide a continuum of AT services including consideration, assessment, acquisition, training, implementation, and follow-up
• Support school teams in incorporating AT into the IEP process and student programming
• Attend IEP and team meetings to support development of appropriate supports and services
• Provide consultation in communication, written communication, computer access, curriculum access, and environmental access
• Recommend AT tools and devices to support students in school settings
• Meet with parents to discuss AT needs and supports

Instructional Leadership & Program Support

• Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs aligned to IEP goals
• Support teachers with effective instructional strategies, materials, and resources
• Consult with staff on academic concerns and appropriate interventions
• Assist with development and delivery of in-service training for staff
• Serve as a liaison between schools, Special Services, and district departments
• Support consistency with state and federal special education regulations
• Maintain regular contact with school sites to provide ongoing support

Training, Collaboration & Systems Support

• Provide group and individual training to staff, students, and families on AT tools and instructional practices
• Work collaboratively with IT and other departments to ensure technology access and functionality
• Support implementation and follow-up of services with school teams
• Expand professional knowledge through ongoing training, research, and networking

Technology & Resource Management

• Manage assistive technology devices and systems (e.g., iPads, software, licenses)
• Support purchasing recommendations for individual students and program needs
• Coordinate management of AT inventory and resources
• Provide technical support for assistive technology across the district

Additional Responsibilities

• Supervise OT/PT
• Develop schedules that include regular school site visits and service delivery
• Collaborate with community agencies to support student access to needed resources
• Perform other duties as assigned, including possible direct student services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Special education laws, procedures, and best practices
• Assistive technology tools, funding sources, and implementation
• Instructional strategies and behavioral supports
• IEP development and compliance requirements
• Emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in special education and assistive technology.
• District policies, procedures, and organizational structures related to special education services.
• Microsoft Office Suite, document routing systems, and electronic signature platforms.
• Operation of a personal computer and job-related software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, database creation and maintenance, information storage and retrieval, and related tasks.
• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Current office practices and procedures.

Ability to:

• Facilitate effective IEP team meetings and support legally compliant decision-making.
• Conduct or coordinate assistive technology evaluations and recommend appropriate supports and services.
• Develop and deliver professional learning opportunities that build staff capacity and improve instructional outcomes.
• Build collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, community partners, and outside agencies.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Work collaboratively and independently
• Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
• Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability in all work products.
• Operate and use modern office equipment, including computers and appropriate software.
• Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

• Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in school leadership role. District-level leadership experience related to behavior, safety, or student service preferred.
• Advanced Special Education Certification
• Idaho Administrator Endorsement (replaces Special Education Teacher Leader requirement)
• Background, training, or experience in Assistive Technology preferred
• Must have a valid Idaho driver's license and a vehicle to drive and/or they must provide their own transportation for job related activities. The job related travel during the day will be reimbursed at the approved state mileage reimbursement rate.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and on the telephone.
• Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents.
• Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and a personal computer.
• Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to lift up to 30 pounds, reach, bend and lift as needed, to sit and work at a keyboard for an extended period of time, and work in a classroom and an office environment.
