Victim Witness Specialist - District Attorney's Office
Larimer County
The District Attorney's Office is hiring a Victim Witness Specialist. This position helps victims of crime through the criminal justice process. This role also includes providing direct advocacy and support to victims navigating the legal system. This position does not require on-call responsibilities, though occasional after-hours meetings may be necessary. This position may work in either our Fort Collins or Loveland office. Our office is open 8 am to 5 pm. After a probationary period, an employee may work from home 1 day per week. Larimer County offers a comprehensive benefits package, and the District Attorney’s Office goes a step further in supporting employee well‑being through our resiliency program. This program provides access to 13 on‑call clinicians with next‑day appointments available, as well as trained peer support specialists within the office, offering a supportive space to connect and decompress when the work becomes difficult. If you could see yourself fitting into our office and community, we hope you apply. Applicants must upload a resume and a cover letter addressed to Kate Perrill, Victim Witness Manager. The District Attorney’s Office follows a blind hiring process. During the initial screening, hiring managers will only see your application, with your name and other identifying personal information redacted. Resumes and cover letters will be reviewed later, so please ensure your application is fully completed. What you'll be doing: Providing support and advocacy to victims of crime, including crisis intervention when needed. Advising victims of their rights under the Victim Rights Act and Colorado law, including the right to be heard during court proceedings, sentencing hearings, and other key stages of the criminal justice process. Preparing comprehensive memos summarizing victim input and recommendations for consideration in the legal process. Assessing victim needs and coordinating referrals and follow‑up services for victims, witnesses, and their families. Meeting with victims to discuss cases, answer questions, and provide guidance throughout the process. Accompanying victims or witnesses to court proceedings or other stages of the criminal justice process when appropriate. Explaining policies and procedures related to criminal protection orders and post‑sentencing notification rights, and providing copies of orders to victims and relevant agencies. Connecting victims with community resources, law enforcement partners, legal services, and other collateral agencies as appropriate. What we're looking for: Experience assisting with data collection and meeting grant reporting requirements. Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail. Clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing. Understanding of the criminal justice system, prosecution processes, crisis intervention, and victim/witness interviewing techniques. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports in compliance with program standards. Comfort using standard software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
