RN Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill newborns ranging from 23 to 24 weeks gestation in a Level III or IV NICU setting. The role involves managing complex clinical interventions such as ventilation support, blood product administration, and attending high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care, with a minimum of 3 years NICU experience required. Flexibility to float to different campuses and units caring for infants is expected. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to neonates requiring CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation, oscillators, and other advanced respiratory support.
• Administer blood and blood products safely and accurately.
• Perform cardioversion and defibrillation as needed.
• Manage cooling and warming blankets for temperature regulation.
• Care for infants with feeding tubes, PICC/central lines, and syringe pumps.
• Attend and assist in high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Float to other campuses or units such as Issaquah or Edmonds SCN, Pediatrics, or Newborn Nursery when required, primarily caring for infants.
• Adhere to unit policies and procedures to maintain a safe and effective care environment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 3 years NICU nursing experience.
• Competency in neonatal critical care including ventilator management and advanced life support techniques.
• Experience with blood product administration and neonatal resuscitation procedures.
• Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in Level III or IV NICU settings.
• Familiarity with multiple campuses and ability to float between units.
• Block scheduling experience or preference.

Special Considerations:

• Travel nurses must have a minimum 3-month separation from previous Providence-affiliated employment.
• Active compact nursing license is honored at all Swedish facilities.
• Floating is rare but may be required to Pediatrics or Special Care Nursery units.
• NICU unit has a dedicated Admit Nurse; travelers generally do not admit babies.
• High acuity environment with complex neonatal care needs.

Scheduling:

• Block scheduling is approved and can accommodate working three or more consecutive shifts if preferred.
• Shift assignments may vary based on unit needs and floating requirements.
