Description:

Assess and respond to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction. Act as a patient advocate. Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care and treat identified problems. Communicate patient assessments to appropriate individuals to ensure the coordination of patient care. Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG. Document in the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner. Check the required information on the patient record to comply with the correct surgical procedures. Complete the final review of patient records to ensure all paperwork and activities, such as site marking, are complete. Provide appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to patients and their families. Decrement supplies according to policy. Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care. Assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients. When assigned to PACU, use knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate nursing care. Recognize patients' needs and maintain airway, monitor vital signs, utilize correct medication to control pain, and consult with others if any difficulties arise that affect the patient. Evaluate patient's status using discharge criteria to safely move the patient onto Phase 2. Is familiar with the transfer process and procedure for sending a patient to other areas. When functioning as a float nurse, maintain communication between all areas and is available to assist staff as needed to maintain flow. Relieve staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner. Works as assigned in pain management and laser procedure rooms. Familiar with supplies and assists with nerve blocks; knows the location of emergency equipment and medications. Participate in meetings, offer suggestions for improvements, and seek guidance when needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
