Laboratory Technician – Quality Control (Chemistry & Microbiology)

Position: Laboratory Technician – Quality Control
Schedule: 3rd Shift | Sunday–Thursday, 9:00 PM–5:30 AM
Position Type: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support Quality Control (QC) testing within a manufacturing laboratory. This position is responsible for performing routine laboratory testing on raw materials and finished products to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with established specifications.

The role focuses primarily on Chemistry (90%) , with approximately 10% Microbiology testing responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have previous laboratory experience, including academic or college laboratory experience, and familiarity with analytical laboratory instruments. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is preferred, although candidates with Biology or Microbiology backgrounds will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control & Laboratory Testing

• Perform routine QC testing and analysis of raw materials and finished products.
• Conduct analytical chemistry testing to evaluate product strength, stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics.
• Analyze and document test results to ensure products meet established quality specifications.
• Prepare chemical solutions and laboratory reagents following approved testing procedures.
• Perform laboratory testing using analytical instrumentation and established testing methods.
• Identify out-of-specification results and assist with investigations when needed.
• Prepare testing reports and accurately maintain laboratory records.
• Support manufacturing operations by ensuring products meet required quality standards.

Chemistry & Microbiology Testing

• Perform chemistry-based laboratory testing approximately 90% of the time.
• Assist with microbiology testing approximately 10% of the time.
• Support microbiological testing activities, which may include environmental monitoring, bioburden testing, and other routine laboratory procedures.
• Prepare culture media, chemical solutions, and laboratory reagents as needed.
• Follow established laboratory testing protocols to maintain accurate and consistent results.

Laboratory Equipment & Compliance

• Operate laboratory equipment and analytical instruments.
• Utilize equipment such as Atomic Absorption (AA), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectroscopy, or similar analytical instruments.
• Maintain laboratory equipment through routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
• Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test methods, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Follow applicable current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Assist with additional laboratory projects and testing assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous laboratory experience, including academic, university, or professional laboratory experience.
• Hands-on experience using laboratory equipment or analytical instruments.
• Basic understanding of chemistry principles and laboratory testing techniques.
• Ability to accurately document, analyze, and interpret testing results.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow written laboratory procedures and safety guidelines.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry preferred; Biology or Microbiology backgrounds will also be considered.
• Associate's degree or relevant college coursework in a scientific discipline.
• Experience with Atomic Absorption (AA), ICP Spectroscopy, or similar analytical instrumentation.
• Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Previous Quality Control testing experience within a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment under cGMP or GLP guidelines.
• Exposure to both chemistry and microbiology testing.

Candidates with relevant academic laboratory experience are encouraged to apply. Previous professional or industry laboratory experience is not required if the candidate has sufficient hands-on laboratory training.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform routine laboratory activities throughout the shift.
• Ability to work with chemicals, laboratory reagents, and analytical equipment while following required safety procedures.
• Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses as needed.
• Ability to occasionally lift or move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment.

Days: Sunday night through Thursday night
Hours: 9:00 PM–5:30 AM

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in chemistry, enjoys hands-on laboratory work, and has experience operating analytical instruments. Individuals with academic laboratory experience, recent graduates, and college students with relevant training are welcome to apply.
