About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 12-bed intermediate care/step-down unit with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, DKA, post-heart cath, and post-aortogram/arteriogram patients
• Perform and manage CVL care, arterial lines, foley catheter management, and tube feedings via NGT or PEG
• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin
• Manage diabetes and perform ongoing hemodynamic monitoring; must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival
• Float as needed to the stroke unit or med-surg floor (ratios up to 1:5-1:6)
• Document accurately using Meditech Expanse EMR; administer medications via Pyxis and manage IV therapy using Alaris pumps

• Active RN license appropriate for the state of practice
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in acute care (perm staff experience required; first-time travelers must meet this requirement)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to start
• Travelers who were previously permanent staff at this facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible

• Prior experience titrating Levophed drips in an intermediate care or ICU-step-down setting
• Familiarity with Meditech Expanse EMR
• Experience working in a high-acuity step-down or PCU environment with frequent floating responsibilities
• Comfort with phlebotomy tasks, as there is no dedicated phlebotomy support on the unit

• Supportive unit environment with 24/7 RT coverage, 24/7 hospitalist availability, IV/VAT team for PICC and midline placement, and access to OT, PT, and ST services
• Free parking available in designated areas, with a structured orientation period to help travelers acclimate to the unit
