Clinical Psychologist

$6,490 - $8,283 per month

Job Summary This is an opening for Clinical Psychologist I and II positions within the Behavioral Health & Social Services Branch of the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency. Candidates will provide diagnostic services, therapeutic counseling, and where appropriate, supervision for psychologist I staff. Benefits Salary Information Clinical Psychologist I: $6,490 – $8,283 approximate monthly ($37.44 – $47.79 approximate hourly). Clinical Psychologist II: $7,155 – $9,133 approximate monthly ($41.28 – $52.69 approximate hourly). Sign on Bonus $7,500 paid at first paycheck and $7,500 paid after a one‑year evaluation period (deferral option available). Holidays 12 days per year plus one additional floating holiday. Vacation 10 days (first 3 years); 15 days (4‑9 years); 17 days (10‑15 years); 20 days (16 years and thereafter). Sick Leave 12 days per year with a generous pro‑ratable payoff at termination after at least 5 years. Retirement CalPERS, coordinated with Social Security. Insurance Medical, dental, vision plans, life insurance, and long‑term disability. Other Deferred compensation plan and IRC Section 125 plan. About the Department The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches: Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. The Behavioral Health & Social Services Branch focuses on comprehensive mental health services and essential social services for adults, children, and families. About the Position Clinical Psychologist I – Under direction, provide psychological diagnostic services and therapeutic counseling for children and adults; perform related work as required. Clinical Psychologist II – Under general direction, provide psychological diagnostic services, therapeutic counseling, and psychotherapy for children and adults; perform related work as required. Responsibilities Conduct psychological evaluations of referred cases and determine appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures. Establish a good working relationship with clients, conduct clinical interviews, and gather relevant background information. Administer, score, and interpret a wide variety of standardized tests (intelligence, projective, vocational, etc.). Provide psychotherapeutic counseling in individual, family, and group modalities; assist clients in gaining insight and developing strategies for coping. Prepare reports that include diagnoses, prognoses, and findings for case disposition or treatment planning. Deliver expert court testimony in cases involving mental deficiency or illness commitment proceedings. Attend staff meetings and related professional/lay group meetings. Clinical Psychologist II only: Provide California Board‑eligible supervision to psychologist I staff, coordinate and plan programs, supervise and train less experienced therapists, and serve as a public liaison through various media. Ideal Candidate Knowledge and experience working with adults who live with severe persistent mental health issues and co‑occurring substance use issues. Registered with the California Board of Psychology and a waiver of licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Key Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, abnormal psychology, diagnostic testing, personality theory, organic defects, therapeutic counseling, statistics, casework, and the biopsychosocial rehabilitation model. Ability to apply biopsychosocial diagnosis and treatment planning, maintain objective and empathic relationships with interdisciplinary teams, exercise discretion and emotional stability, and collaborate effectively with staff, health, and social service professionals and community groups. Minimum Qualifications Clinical Psychologist I Possession of a PhD Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university. Clinical Psychologist II Possession of a PhD Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university and two years of post‑doctoral experience in clinical psychology. Knowledge of clinical supervision principles and state licensing board requirements. Special Requirements Clinical Psychologist I Registered with the California Board of Psychology and have received a waiver of licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Follow ethical and legal standards required to maintain registration. Obtain a license as a psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology within five years of hire or be terminated. A valid driver’s license may be required. Clinical Psychologist II Registered with the California Board of Psychology and have received a waiver of licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Follow ethical and legal standards required to maintain licensure. Possess a license as a Clinical Psychologist issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Have two or more years of experience and the necessary coursework and certification to provide California Board‑eligible supervision of psychologist I staff. Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license. Physical Demands and Work Environment The position requires regular talking and hearing, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Participation in Professional Assault Response Training (PART) and updates is required. Work environment is moderately noisy.
