Front Desk Associate

Appalachian Highlands Humane Society (AHHS) Location: Johnson City, TN Position: Full-Time (40 hours per week) Pay: $15.00 per hour Schedule: Typically during regular business hours, with occasional weekends or holidays as needed. About the Position Appalachian Highlands Humane Society (AHHS) is seeking a friendly, compassionate, and organized Front Desk Associate to join our team! As the first point of contact for visitors, volunteers, donors, and community members, you'll play an important role in creating a welcoming and professional environment while supporting our mission of helping animals in need. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is comfortable around animals, and thrives in a busy, team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Front Desk & Customer Service Welcome visitors, volunteers, donors, and community members with professionalism and compassion. Answer incoming phone calls and emails, directing inquiries to appropriate staff. Assist with appointment check-ins and provide general information about AHHS services and procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front office. Administrative Support Assist with filing, scanning, data entry, and organizing records. Enter and update information in our shelter management system. Prepare forms, informational packets, and other office materials. Assist with office supply inventory and general administrative tasks. Animal Care Support Provide occasional assistance with basic animal care, including spot cleaning animal areas and providing enrichment. Assist with safely moving animals between designated areas after appropriate training. Communicate animal care concerns to the Designated Team Leader. Team Support Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and the public. Follow established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Assist with special projects and events as needed. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Strong communication and customer service skills. Basic computer proficiency, including email and data entry. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask in a busy environment. Comfortable working around dogs and cats. A compassionate, patient, and professional attitude.Demonstrates empathy, patience, and professionalism when communicating with individuals in difficult or emotional situations, both in person and over the phone. Preferred but Not Required: Previous receptionist, administrative, or customer service experience. Experience working in animal welfare, veterinary services, or nonprofit organizations. Familiarity with shelter management software. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Comfortable working in an environment with animals, noise, and typical shelter conditions. Join Our Team!
