Project Engineer

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer I supports the Customer Project Delivery department by managing and implementing energy efficiency projects aimed at reducing customer energy consumption. This role involves working closely with customers, contractors, and consultants to develop, design, and oversee multiple projects related to lighting, HVAC, controls, wastewater treatment, and building envelope improvements. The Project Engineer ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical and regulatory standards. Responsibilities:

• Represent the organization at customer meetings, design sessions, contractor walkthroughs, and presentations.
• Prepare engineering calculations, estimates, and cost analyses for feasibility and audit reports.
• Manage multiple concurrent energy conservation and new project developments.
• Develop customer installation commitment documents including cost recovery agreements and economic analyses.
• Track and report project status for all assigned projects.
• Evaluate project scope, review feasibility reports, develop design documents, and recommend contract awards.
• Develop and verify engineering, labor, and material bid specifications.
• Ensure compliance with design, code, licensing, and maintenance requirements.
• Review project activities for technical accuracy, cost control, and schedule adherence.
• Resolve issues related to customer bill savings, design, and construction.
• Support senior engineers in negotiating change orders and contract modifications.
• Develop and verify financial and billing documentation related to savings calculations.
• Ensure full recovery of financial resources expended on projects.
• Coordinate activities among contractors, consultants, vendors, and customers to ensure quality assurance and code compliance.
• Enforce hazardous material handling, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Stay updated on technological developments, project input parameters, and regulatory changes.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum of five years of engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems and related codes.
• Technical expertise across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to analyze facility conditions and address contract, design, and operational issues.
• Ability to develop cost-effective engineering solutions and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to travel to customer facilities as needed.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
• Advanced degree in engineering, scientific, or business discipline.
• Working knowledge of SAP, Oracle Primavera, and Microsoft Teams.
• Experience with utility service rate analyses, energy analysis, life cycle cost analysis, project financing, and energy systems controls.

Special Considerations:

• Compliance with hazardous material handling, safety, and environmental procedures is mandatory.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours as project demands require.

Scheduling:

• Standard business hours with availability to work evenings or weekends based on project needs.
• Travel to customer locations within New York City boroughs as necessary to support construction activities.
