Certified School Nurse (CSN)

The Chichester School District is seeking a highly qualified and compassionate Certified School Nurse (CSN) to provide comprehensive health services to the Chichester Elementary School student population. The Certified School Nurse is a professional member of the educational team responsible for promoting student health and wellness, supporting academic success, and ensuring a safe learning environment. This role serves as a vital liaison between students, families, school staff, and community healthcare providers and requires a strong commitment to public health, student safety, and equity in education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Healthcare

Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, emergency care, and routine health screenings (e.g., vision and hearing) in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations and district policies.

Administer medications and medical treatments as prescribed by licensed healthcare providers.

Health Plan Management

Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with chronic or acute health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, severe allergies).

Collaborate with families, physicians, and school staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and responses to student health needs.

Records & Compliance

Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student health records in compliance with the Pennsylvania School Code, HIPAA, and FERPA regulations.

Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and communicable disease reporting.

Communication & Collaboration

Serve as a key communication link between parents/guardians, healthcare providers, administrators, teachers, and support staff regarding student health concerns.

Assist in the development, implementation, and review of district health-related policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.

Mandated Reporter

Fulfill all legal obligations as a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with Pennsylvania law.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Certifications & Licensure

Current, valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Current, active Pennsylvania Department of Education Certified School Nurse (CSN) certificate OR willingness to obtain certification after hire.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification.
