Patient Financial Advocate Bilingual

Job Description A Patient Financial Advocate (PFA) provides financial counseling to uninsured/ underinsured patients, by determining eligibility for IMH patients and individuals in the communities we serve. Patient Financial Advocates assist patients by processing and submitting documentation and applications for various medical assistance programs, such as: State/ Federal public benefits, ACA insurance education, and internal/ external financial assistance/aide programs. A Patient Financial Advocate will provide general insurance education, price quotes to potential patients, and assist with payments and payment arrangements. This position will be based out of the Emergency Room Department at St. Mary's Hospital. This role will be screening patients for Medicaid eligibility, while also educating patients on Federal Marketplace tax credits and other financial assistance options available to them. This role also expands to supporting inpatient and mother/baby room visits while supporting evening room visits with family members to obtain further information. Schedule Saturday - Wednesday 1:30pm - 10:00pm. Training is Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm for approx 6-8 weeks. Essential Functions Interviews patients and consumers, screening for available internal and Public Benefit Programs, applying for appropriate program; in person and remote. Completes applications for Public Benefit programs, submitting with required documents. Process and determine requests for internal and external financial assistance programs. Financially clear patients for elective surgeries/services. Assists with co-pay assistance program application process. Provides general insurance education. Provides Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance education and navigation. Point of service collections and establish payment plans. Completes and submits assistance applications to external Agencies, as appropriate, and follows through to determination. Skills Financial Counseling and Financial Aid. Knowledge of public benefit programs. Computer literacy. Adaptability. Working independently. Communication. Taking initiative. Problem solving. Understanding of applicable regulations. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Certified Application Counselor (CAC) Certification (Montana) or Referral Partner Certification (Colorado) within Three (3) months of hire. No Verbal or Written Consultation or Corrective action in the previous 12 months. Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, internet and email. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Experience in healthcare revenue cycle, patient access or other customer service role. Preferred Qualifications Experience applying for public benefit programs. Experience in financial assistance. Experience working in Epic Bilingual Spanish speaking. Location & Salary Location: St. Marys Regional Hospital. Work City: Grand Junction. Work State: Colorado. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. The hourly range for this position is listed below.
