Job Title: Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/Tele RN - Ortho/Uro/Neuro Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 0700-1930 Experience: Minimum of 1 year acute care nursing experience License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Experience with titration of drips, including heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin. Description: The department has a total of 29 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during day shifts and 1:5-6 during night shifts. Common diagnoses and types of patients include orthopedic trauma, vascular procedures, urology, neuro-spine cases, Client oncology, and acute medical conditions. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram. Telemetry technicians monitor the telemetry equipment 24/7, so nurses do not need to read the strips. A charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes an assignment. There is also a house supervisor on all shifts. Nursing assistants are available, with varying ratios throughout the day and night. Respiratory therapy support is present, with equipment including CPAP, BIPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy. Shifts are scheduled from 0700-1930, 1100-2330, and 2300-0700 for RNs, and from 0630-1900, 1830-0700 for nursing assistants. There is no self-scheduling available; block scheduling is utilized as staffing permits. Every other weekend and holiday are required. There is no on-call or standby requirement. Registered nurses will be required to float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units. Dress code includes any clean and professional scrubs. Unit-specific orientation consists of a brief computer training followed by precepted floor orientation. Nurses must clock in and out while on duty.
