THE ROLE

Wip is seeking a hands-on, high-ownership Controller to build the company’s accounting foundation and support financial planning and business performance. This role will serve as the company’s accounting and controls lead, owning the full accounting function, financial reporting, and internal controls, while partnering closely with the SVP, Finance & Operations on forecasting, planning, and strategic finance. You will be responsible for bringing rigor, accuracy, and discipline to the business—while also rolling up your sleeves to execute across all day-to-day finance operations. This is a scrappy, high-impact role for someone who thrives in a startup environment: you will move between building processes and systems for scale and directly handling core workflows (AR, AP, close, reconciliations). You will play a critical role in transitioning work from outsourced partners in-house and establishing the financial infrastructure for the next stage of growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting, Reporting & Controls Own the accounting function end-to-end, including monthly close, general ledger, and financial reporting. Ensure financials are accurate, timely, and decision-ready. Establish and maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness. Maintain visibility into cash and support near‑term liquidity management. Own cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing in a CPG environment Oversee external accounting partners and lead transition to fully in‑house operations. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes in partnership with the SVP. Build, maintain, and enhance financial models (P&L, cash flow, unit economics). Deliver monthly and quarterly performance analysis with clear insights and drivers. Partner with functional leaders to manage budgets and improve spend efficiency. Build and maintain KPI dashboards and reporting infrastructure. Business Performance & Decision Support Translate financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights. Support the leadership team on key decisions (pricing, channel mix, spend allocation). Provide visibility into channel performance, trade spend, and margin drivers. Proactively identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities—and drive resolution. Systems, Process & Infrastructure Own NetSuite and core financial systems, including optimization and reporting enhancements. Build scalable processes across accounting and finance operations. Improve reporting speed, automation, and data integrity. Implement infrastructure to support retail complexity (trade spend, deductions, chargebacks). Act as a trusted partner across teams, bringing financial clarity to decisions. Operate as a player‑coach in a lean, high‑growth environment. Help recruit and develop future finance and accounting team members as the company grows.

QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience at a PE‑backed CPG company or a CPG startup. Food and beverage experience strongly preferred. Bachelor’s in accounting or finance required; CPA strongly preferred, MBA a plus. Owned monthly close end‑to‑end, with deep fluency in cost accounting, inventory accounting, and COGS in a high‑volume production environment. Direct experience partnering with a CFO or SVP on FP&A: budgeting, forecasting, variance, and decision support. Built and maintained financial models (P&L, cash flow, forecast) and KPI dashboards that have measurably shaped how an organization makes decisions. NetSuite expertise, including system ownership, reporting, and optimization. Hands‑on operator who executes personally while building team capability, has lived through at least one function transition (insourcing or outsourcing) Thrives in startup ambiguity We are based in New York City (Tribeca) and work in‑office 4 days a week. Fridays are optional work‑from‑home, and most of our team takes advantage of this.
