Position Basics

• Shift: Rotating Night Shift / 6:00pm – 6:00am
• Start Pay Range: $29.50
• Where: This position may be available in the following location: US - Tampa, FL

Your Mission

Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and document GMP‑critical utilities—steam, chilled and condenser water, compressed air, purified water, water for injection (WFI), HVAC, clean steam, power distribution, and process waste—while responding to alarms, supporting projects and shutdowns, coordinating contractors, and driving continuous improvement with safety at the forefront.

Core Responsibilities

• Utility operations & monitoring: Perform field rounds, inspections, and operational checks; verify equipment status; maintain accurate logbooks and GMP records; manage systems through BMS/EMS, PLC/HMI, PI Vision, Trane Tracer, and equipment HMIs.
• Steam generation/distribution: Operate boilers; perform water chemistry testing and chemical treatment checks; conduct blowdowns and natural gas leak checks; maintain/diagnose condensate return, traps, stations, surge tanks, deaerators, boiler feed pumps, level controls, regulators, steam hot water heaters, and HVAC reheat; sustain boiler certification/site compliance awareness.
• Chilled water & towers: Run screw and centrifugal chillers; maintain chilled/condenser pumps and related valves/controls; balance cooling towers and manage water treatment/chemicals ; troubleshoot bypass pressure and flow; use York/Trane HMIs for performance insights.
• Compressed air & vacuum: Operate oil‑free screw compressors, desiccant dryers, receivers, regulators, auto drains, and condensate management equipment; monitor dew point performance; leverage Atlas Copco HMIs; manage plant vacuum.
• Pharma water, WFI, clean steam: Manage multimedia/carbon filters, softeners/brine, flow meters, UV, fine filtration, RO, and purified water distribution; support MECO vapor compression stills, WFI tanks, spray balls, and MECO clean steam generators; track TOC and conductivity; complete/review GMP water-system forms; perform stainless steel passivation.
• HVAC & environment: Operate chilled‑water and DX AHUs; maintain reheat, temperature, and relative humidity control; understand temp/RH/cleanroom dynamics; investigate and help resolve environmental excursions and utility-driven alarms.
• Electrical & fire protection: Support generators, switchgear, diesel fire pumps; work safely around 480V three‑phase; troubleshoot relay logic/control circuits; apply Lockout/Tagout; monitor and maintain the Simplex fire alarm system.
• Process waste & facility systems: Operate lift stations; manage pH neutralization; maintain process waste systems.
• Control room response: Monitor systems centrally; respond to alarms; evaluate equipment status; coordinate corrective actions; create work orders and POs; keep stakeholders informed.
• Maintenance & projects: Execute PMs and support corrective work; keep utility areas organized, painted, and inspection‑ready; troubleshoot pumps, valves, actuators, piping, and controls; partner with engineers and PMs on upgrades, installations, commissioning; coordinate contractors; assist in semi‑annual shutdowns with extended schedules when necessary.

Compliance, Safety, and Standards

• Work in a regulated pharmaceutical environment; maintain current GMP/SOP training.
• Complete, review, and retain accurate GMP documentation.
• Support FDA/internal audits, deviations, corrective actions, and readiness efforts.
• Adhere to safety programs: confined space entry, respiratory protection, hazardous chemical handling, aseptic gowning, and lift equipment usage.
• Model a safety‑first mindset while supporting 24/7 operations.

Coverage & Teaming

• Cover other operators when required.
• Work weekends, holidays, non‑standard shifts, and extended shutdown schedules to ensure continuity.
• Communicate effectively across manufacturing, maintenance, quality, engineering, contractors, and leadership; own shift turnover and reliability.

Experience & Credentials

• Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Preferred: Technical degree, trade school, or military technical training; 5+ years in utilities operations/maintenance/facilities/control room; background in regulated manufacturing (pharma/biotech/medical device).
• Systems knowledge: Boilers/steam/condensate ; chilled and condenser water; cooling towers; compressed air; HVAC; purified water/WFI/clean steam; vacuum; process waste.
• Troubleshooting skills: Mechanical and electrical (including relay logic); valves and actuators (pneumatic/electric) ; pumps; piping; utility controls.
• Fabrication: Pipe fitting/hanging/bending/threading ; ProPress; PVC; stick/TIG welding (preferred); lathe and mill (preferred).
• Automation/software: PLC/HMI; PI Vision; Trane Tracer (Tracer Ensemble preferred); Maximo; MS Word/Excel; ABB VFD programming (preferred); PLC programming (preferred).
• Certifications: Boiler certification (preferred or required per jurisdiction); forklift/JLG/Lull/scissor lift experience (preferred); confined space/respiratory qualification (preferred); arc flash certification (preferred); able to perform aseptic gowning.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Stand, walk, and climb stairs/ladders; access elevated work areas during shifts.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull materials/equipment in line with site requirements.
• Work across mechanical rooms, cleanrooms, utility spaces, rooftops, and confined spaces.
• Wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when qualified and required.
• Operate safely around steam, heat, chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, and electrical systems.
