Emergency Department Registered Nurse

The Emergency Department at St. Louis Children's Hospital has been designated as a trauma center and treats nearly 50,000 kids a year! Job details include 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, every third weekend, and holiday rotation as required by the department. This position is benefit eligible and is part of the BJC Registered Nurse Career Ladder, which promotes professional development, leadership, collaboration, education, and service excellence. Moves to higher ladder levels will result in a percentage increase of current pay that aligns with the new job description. Preferred experience includes 1 year of RN experience in an ED or in pediatric acute care.

The role purpose is to provide direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities include promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment, educating patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration, participating in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, participating in professional development, developing, implementing, and documenting individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care, proactively planning and ensuring communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care, and using critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.

BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job. Minimum requirements include a nursing diploma or associate's degree in nursing. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in nursing and 2 years of experience.
