Marketing Writing Manager

Overview of the PositionSFLA is seeking a mission-driven, highly skilled, and marketing-oriented Marketing Writing Manager to lead our Marketing Writing Team within the Communications Department. This is a working-manager position responsible for both leading the writing function and producing high-quality marketing content.The Marketing Writing Manager will translate SFLA's broader marketing and creative strategy into actionable writing plans, campaigns, assignments, and deliverables. This individual will work closely with the Director of Marketing and across departments to identify communication needs, develop messaging approaches, prioritize projects, and ensure the writing team produces compelling, accurate, timely, and on-brand content.The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer who understands how writing functions within a broader marketing strategy. This person should be comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands-on writing, managing multiple priorities, providing feedback to writers, and rapidly adapting content based on organizational needs.ResponsibilitiesWriting Team Leadership & ManagementLead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Marketing Writing Team.Assign writing projects based on team capacity, expertise, deadlines, and organizational priorities.Establish and maintain writing workflows, timelines, priorities, and production standards.Coach, develop, and provide constructive feedback to members of the writing team.Set expectations for quality, timeliness, responsiveness, and ownership.Monitor team workload and identify capacity issues or gaps before they affect deadlines.Develop systems that allow the writing team to produce high-quality content efficiently and consistently.Serve as the primary point of coordination for writing projects within the Marketing Department.Marketing Strategy & Content PlanningWork closely with the Director of Marketing to translate marketing priorities into written content strategies.Develop content plans and messaging approaches for campaigns, initiatives, launches, events, and organizational priorities.Help determine the appropriate audience, message, tone, platform, and content type for each marketing initiative.Develop campaign briefs and writing assignments that give writers clear objectives and expectations.Identify opportunities to repurpose and maximize existing content across multiple platforms.Anticipate upcoming organizational needs and proactively develop content plans.Collaborate with marketing leadership to ensure written content supports broader organizational goals.Hands-On Writing & EditingPersonally write high-priority, complex, strategic, or time-sensitive marketing content.Write and edit persuasive marketing materials across a variety of formats.Develop campaign messaging, emails, website copy, scripts, social media content, talking points, and other marketing materials.Edit and strengthen drafts produced by members of the writing team.Provide substantive feedback on messaging, structure, audience, persuasion, clarity, and effectiveness.Rapidly revise content based on feedback from executive leadership and department heads.Maintain the ability to step in and produce content when workload or deadlines require it.Cross-Department CollaborationWork with departments across SFLA to understand organizational priorities and translate them into effective marketing opportunities.Serve as a strategic writing partner to department leaders and subject-matter experts.Attend relevant meetings to understand upcoming initiatives, campaigns, events, and priorities.Ask the right questions to identify the purpose, audience, desired action, and messaging strategy behind each request.Balance departmental requests against broader marketing priorities and available team capacity.Help departments understand how to effectively communicate through marketing channels.Editorial & Quality ControlPartner with the Copy Editor to ensure content meets SFLA's Lexicon, Style Guide, brand voice, and editorial standards.Review content for strategic effectiveness, accuracy, tone, audience, and messaging.Ensure appropriate fact-checking and source verification occurs before publication.Identify messaging inconsistencies and work with the team to resolve them.Maintain high standards for written content across all marketing channels.AI & Workflow IntegrationEstablish effective and responsible AI-assisted writing workflows using Copilot and other approved tools.Train and coach team members on appropriate AI use in the writing process.Use AI to accelerate research, drafting, editing, repurposing, and content development while maintaining human ownership of the final product.Ensure AI-assisted content is reviewed for accuracy, tone, Lexicon, Style Guide compliance, and organizational context.Continue evaluating opportunities to improve writing team efficiency through technology.Project ManagementManage writing projects and deadlines through Asana or other approved project management tools.Maintain visibility into current, upcoming, and overdue writing assignments.Coordinate deadlines with design, marketing, events, communications, and other relevant teams.Identify potential bottlenecks and proactively resolve them.Ensure final content is delivered on time and ready for publication or distribution.Position DetailsPosition DetailsPosition TypeThis is a full-time salaried position working at least 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe Writing Manager reports to the Marketing Director and will manage the writing team.Will collaborate with other departments and department heads.Physical DemandsMust have the ability to operate technical equipment such as a computer and sit for extended periods of time.Must be able to withstand long periods of driving.Other physical demands may occasionally include: setting up displays, walking around campuses, standing during display times, walking outside for long periods of time (door to door canvassing) and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.TravelTravel to bi-annual team trainings in January and July is requiredWork AuthorizationMust be able to successfully complete an I-9.
