The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.


Position Summary


Under the leadership of the Director, Training & Prevention, and as a member of SVR Training & Prevention team, the Prevention Coordinator designs, delivers, and evaluates primary prevention education for the Columbia community including programming on affirmative consent, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention for athletes, fraternities and sororities, and undergraduate and graduate student organizations and academic departments.


This role co-leads SVR's volunteer programming, helps coordinate NSOP, Club Refuel, and certification trainings, and represents SVR in cross-campus and community partnerships, all in the support of the department's broader goal of community-based culture change and compliance with New York State's Enough Is Enough legislation.


This position requires the successful completion of all mandatory department and university training at onboarding and on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with institutional policies and job-specific responsibilities. SVR is a New York State Department of Health certified Rape Crisis Program; all staff must complete required training and certification within the first 90 days of hire.


This is an essential on-site role requiring a non-traditional schedule, including regular evening and weekend hours. Limited hybrid flexibility may be considered.

Responsibilities


Training, Prevention, Educational Programming and Outreach (45%)

• Design, deliver and evaluate evidence-based and evidence-informed prevention education programs focused on topics such as (but not limited to) affirmative consent, thriving or healthy relationships, and bystander intervention.
• Support campus-wide awareness events, campaigns, and collaborative prevention strategies.
• Design and implement evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of trainings, program curricula, and performance outcomes.
• Assist in the development of strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for prevention programs and services for SVR.
• Build networks of allies to be involved in gender and power-based violence training and prevention efforts, including participation in events.
• Assist with peer education and student engagement initiatives that foster community accountability and culture change.
• Manage administrative related aspects of planning outreach efforts and prevention programs for SVR including maintaining records and evaluation-related and reports.
• In collaboration with SVR staff, campus colleagues and community partners, coordinate, develop, and deliver community-based primary and secondary prevention programming directed at the prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence. This will include athletes, fraternities, and sororities, Undergraduate and Graduate student organizations, as well as Undergraduate and Graduate Academic departments.

Facilitation & Culture Change (30%)

• Work towards community-based culture change by focusing on diverse backgrounds and experiences in prevention content, programming, and activities with the goal of inclusion.
• Create opportunities through training, prevention, and outreach efforts to include marginalized populations with the goal of increased involvement within SVR (volunteers, casual employees, etc.), engagement in events/activities, and destigmatization of survivor status.
• Co-Lead the departments volunteer programming efforts.
• In collaboration with the Training and Prevention team, coordinate the planning, curriculum, implementation, logistics, and evaluation of the New Student Orientation Program (NSOP), Club Refuel Student Leader Training, SVR certification trainings, etc.
• Serve as facilitator or co-facilitator for training activities and provide technical support accordingly.

Collaboration and related Services (20%)

• Foster partnerships with other educational institutions, while continuing to maintain and develop an existing network of contacts.
• Participate in university and community committees and task forces as needed.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders including Columbia Health colleagues, undergraduate and graduate colleagues, Student Affairs, community-based programs and other key stakeholders to develop comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to violence prevention for students.
• Manage accurate statistical data, which reflect various aspects of prevention and education service provision and compliance.
• Assist in data collection and reporting for grant compliance and institutional assessment purposes.
• Work in partnership with the Training and Prevention team in recruitment, selection, orientation, training, supervision, retention, and development of new and existing volunteers and student-staff Peer Educators, Interns, etc.
• In partnership with the Training and Prevention team, manage and coordinate student-driven institution-wide events or educational programs (Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Relationship Violence Awareness Month, Stalking Awareness Month, etc.).
• Build networks of allies to be involved in gender and power-based violence training and prevention efforts, including participation in events.
• Maintain and develop a network of contacts and actively see out and participate in professional development activities to keep current on best practices, and research literature pertinent to the field.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 3 years related experience
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing violence prevention and education programs targeting young adults and engaging diverse communities in this work.
• Training in sexual assault and intimate partner violence.
• Prior experience facilitating one-on-one sessions, small and large group presentations, workshops and trainings.
• Requires excellent communication (written and oral), facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations.
• Experience working with survivors of power and gender-based violence.
• Must be well organized and detail oriented, with ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands.
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi-racial environment with commitment to social justice.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or advanced degree in related field.
• Experience working with survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, or prevention education in a college/university setting.
• Content and curriculum design.
• Designing visual tools/aids for presentations and materials.
• Familiarity with Enough Is Enough legislation and New York State Rape Crisis Program (RCP) certification standards.
• Experience working in a complex organization and an understanding of larger institutional goals and objectives.
• Proven record of applying issues of diversity and social justice to a prevention practice.
• Knowledge of the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights/Title IX, Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA), Clery Act, and Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SAVE Act).
• Presentation and design software.

Other Requirements

• Stay abreast of current developments in the college sexual assault field by participating in professional list serves, reviewing current literature research, and attending professional conferences and trainings. Keep informed of necessary policy directives related to the college sexual assault field including, but not limited to, the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights/Title IX, Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA), Clery Act, Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SAVE Act), NYS Enough Is Enough (EIE), NYS Department of Health Rape Crisis Program and Public Health regulations, HIPAA, FERPA, etc.
