Business Analyst

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Business Analyst for a contract/temporary opportunity in Fairfield, CA within the energy and utilities industry. This role focuses on knowledge management, documentation standardization, taxonomy design, and operational content organization for Network Operations Center environments.

The Business Analyst will help improve how NOC teams find, use, govern, and maintain critical operational instructions, including runbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, escalation procedures, and recovery steps. This is a strong opportunity for a professional who enjoys organizing complex technical information, partnering with operations and engineering teams, and improving knowledge accessibility during time-sensitive incidents.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain enterprise taxonomy structures for NOC operational instructions, including runbooks, playbooks, SOPs, escalation procedures, troubleshooting guides, and recovery steps.
- Build and manage a centralized knowledge catalog with standardized tagging, metadata, naming conventions, versioning rules, and ownership details.
- Create templates and documentation standards that make operational procedures clear, consistent, searchable, and easy for frontline operators to use.
- Partner with NOC leaders, service owners, engineering teams, and SMEs to convert tribal knowledge into repeatable, operator-friendly instructions.
- Establish governance processes for content creation, review, approval, publishing, retirement, recertification, and documentation quality audits.
- Improve search, retrieval, and user experience by analyzing how operators locate information and refining keywords, aliases, categories, and service-based navigation.

Additional Skills

Requirements:
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, IT, Library & Information Science, Knowledge Management, Computer Science, or related field - or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following: IT operations network operations NOC environments service operations knowledge management technical documentation IT service management

Experience designing taxonomies, metadata models, catalog structures, or knowledge architectures.

Strong understanding of NOC processes, incident management, escalation workflows, and operational response procedures.

Experience with documentation and knowledge platforms such as ServiceNow, SharePoint, Confluence, or similar systems.

Strong ability to structure complex operational information into intuitive, searchable categories.

Excellent written communication and technical editing skills.

Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across operations, engineering, and service teams.
