Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to support and manage full-cycle accounting operations for an established international logistics organization in Torrance, CA. This is a hands-on accounting position responsible for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, general ledger activity, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, and audit preparation .

The ideal candidate will bring previous accounting experience within the freight forwarding or international logistics industry and have hands-on working knowledge of CargoWise/CargoWise One . This individual will independently manage day-to-day accounting functions while also providing guidance and support to junior accounting team members.

This opportunity is well suited for an accounting professional who understands the financial side of freight forwarding operations and is comfortable taking ownership of accounting activities from daily transactions through closing and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities, including invoicing, payment posting, vendor invoices, account adjustments, and reconciliations.
• Prepare customer statements, monitor aging reports, and follow up on outstanding balances and collection activity.
• Maintain accurate accounting transactions and financial records within CargoWise/CargoWise One .
• Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare necessary journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and assist with regular cash-position reporting.
• Coordinate and complete month-end and year-end closing activities according to established deadlines.
• Prepare financial statements, internal management reports, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
• Review accounting activity for accuracy and investigate discrepancies or unusual account balances.
• Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, depreciation, and disposals.
• Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for annual financial audits.
• Work directly with external auditors and tax professionals to provide requested accounting information.
• Assist with tax-related documentation, reporting, and annual filing requirements.
• Support customer credit reviews and maintain accurate credit-related documentation.
• Process employee reimbursements, office expenses, and commission-related accounting when applicable.
• Communicate with banking institutions and foreign-exchange providers regarding financial transactions and account matters.
• Maintain appropriate accounting controls and ensure financial records are complete and properly documented.
• Provide training, work assignments, and ongoing guidance to 1–2 junior accounting team members .
• Partner with management and corporate accounting personnel regarding financial reporting, cash activity, collections, and other accounting matters.
• Support additional accounting and administrative projects as needed.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline .
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience .
• Previous accounting experience within freight forwarding, international logistics, transportation, or a closely related industry .
• Hands-on experience using CargoWise or CargoWise One in an accounting environment.
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting , including AR, AP, general ledger, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Experience independently completing month-end and year-end close .
• Demonstrated experience preparing or supporting financial statements and management reporting .
• Experience with bank reconciliations, cash reporting, and account analysis.
• Previous involvement with financial audits, audit schedules, and external auditor requests .
• Strong understanding of accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial recordkeeping.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and professional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with previous experience as a Senior Accountant, Senior Accounting Specialist, Accounting Supervisor, Full-Charge Accountant, or similar accounting professional within freight forwarding or international logistics are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience using CargoWise for AR, AP, invoicing, payment processing, financial reporting, reconciliations, or other accounting functions is highly desirable.

Previous experience training, mentoring, or overseeing junior accounting personnel is also preferred.

The successful Senior Accounting Specialist will maintain accurate and reconciled financial records , consistently meet month-end and year-end closing deadlines, and provide management with timely financial information.

This individual will take ownership of AR, AP, collections, bank activity, and general ledger accuracy while ensuring accounting information within CargoWise remains current and reliable.

Success will also require strong follow-through, proactive communication, organized audit preparation, and the ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies before they become larger issues.
