Essential Job Functions Attends work regularly and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy. Performs medical activities and treatment independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Directs medical activities, monitors trends, makes recommendations for improvement, and utilizes advanced nursing skills for comprehensive patient care. Provides care for HHSC employees injured in the course and scope of employment. Works under limited supervision with extensive latitude for independent judgment. Assists in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shifts or locations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of general medicine/nursing methods and procedures, including laws and ordinances governing public health and hospital operations. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment. Knowledge of developing, implementing, and documenting case histories and individualized care and treatment plans. Skill in interpreting laboratory analyses and X‑rays. Skill in using medical diagnostic and treatment tools and equipment. Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat physical disorders. Ability to supervise other medical care providers. Ability to interact appropriately with individuals with developmental disabilities. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral communications. Ability to prepare and maintain medical records. Ability to work productively with professionals and paraprofessionals as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to work independently and be flexible in carrying out assigned responsibilities. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Registered nurse in Texas or another state recognized through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the Texas Board of Nursing and certified as a family, adult/geriatric APRN by an accredited board (e.g., ANCC). Current registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). National Provider Identifier (NPI#) as defined by Medicare Part B. Initial Screening Criteria Graduated from an accredited advanced practice registered nurse program with a master’s degree or higher. One year of clinical nursing experience. Experience supervising or leading others preferred. Additional Information All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants for Waco and Terrell Center for Youth must be at least 21. Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and extended hours may apply. Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital procedures related to immunizations is required. HHSC requires employees to be vaccinated against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza.
