Position Overview The Police Officer – Certified is a safety‑sensitive position that protects life and property, prevents crime, apprehends criminals, and enforces laws and ordinances in a designated area or on an assigned shift. Pay Scale and Benefits Certified Police Officer Hiring Pay Scale 2026 Post certified, less than two years Patrol experience: $80,746 per year Police Officer/Senior Police Officer – Lateral Hiring Pay Scale 2026 Two (2) or more years of experience: $92,706 per year Three (3) or more years of experience: $101,691 per year Four (4) or more years of experience: $107,661 per year Five (5) or more years of experience: $119,621 per year Hiring Bonus – All newly hired Police Officers (Trainees, Certified, and Lateral) receive $5,000 upon completion of field training and an additional $5,000 after the one‑year probationary period. Essential Job Functions Responsible for effective incident evaluation Respond to calls for service Obtain and evaluate information at the scene Determine priority of actions and classify incidents Collect, identify, and preserve evidence and personal property Interview and interrogate with legal admonitions Responsible for arrest, detain, search, and preserve safety Approach and detain suspects Make arrests and restrain as necessary Use appropriate force and conduct legal searches Maintain safety precautions in hazardous situations Aware of own location and that of other officers Responsible for effective communication Provide law enforcement information verbally and in writing Maintain courtesy with the public Advise victims, complainants, and others Mediator disputes and control crowds Present a professional appearance Prepare written reports, memos, citations, logs Use radio and portable devices effectively Responsible for patrolling Perform patrol activities in assigned area Observe conditions and act on hazards or suspicious activity Respond to calls and enforce laws and ordinances Must safely and proficiently use vehicles and equipment Maintain and inspect patrol vehicle and equipment Operate vehicle and weapons under training and emergency conditions Must effectively use legal and department knowledge Know laws, codes, and procedures; testify in court Serve summonses, subpoenas, and warrants Maintain knowledge of department policies and legal updates Completed required training and adhere to code of conduct Maintain regular and punctual attendance Required and Preferred Qualifications Required Must be 21 years of age Graduation from high school or GED Graduation from a certified Police Academy Colorado POST Certified or provisionally POST Certified at hire (Certified) At least two years full‑time law‑enforcement patrol experience (Local, Municipal, Sheriff, State Patrol or Police) within last three years No felony convictions Valid driver’s license and safe driving record Preferred Military training (veteran friendly) Minimum two years college level training in police science, criminal justice or related field Municipal level law‑enforcement experience Physical Requirements Use physical strength and stamina to capture, control, and arrest subjects or suspects Carry 30 pounds for up to ten hours on shift Stand, walk, run, and operate on all terrain and weather conditions Perform awkward movements such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and balancing Handle weapons and evidence with fine motor skills, and maintain visual acuity for accurate weapon discharge Lift up to 60 pounds from ground to waist and up to 20 pounds overhead; push/pull up to 200 pounds as needed Working Conditions Work is performed outdoors and occasionally indoors, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, heavy traffic, and hazardous situations including threats, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Pre‑Employment Requirements Successful completion of an oral interview, assessment center, psychological examination, background investigation, polygraph, or CVSA Pass a CJIS background investigation and fingerprinting; felony convictions or outstanding warrants may disqualify Additional testing or drug screen as required Pre‑employment physical exam Legally entitled to work in the United States with required documentation #J-18808-Ljbffr
