Assistant Dean of Libraries for Community Experience and Engagement

The client seeks an inaugural Assistant Dean of Libraries for Community Experience and Engagement to provide pivotal leadership in shaping how the campus community experiences, connects with, and is inspired by the library. As a central academic and social hub, the role will help define how library spaces, services, and programs come together to support daily campus life. The assistant dean will develop and advance a unifying vision that strengthens the connection between physical and digital experiences and enhances community-centered public service. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries and serving on the Libraries Leadership Team, the assistant dean will guide a holistic strategy to ensure the Libraries remain responsive to evolving community needs. This leader will proactively integrate library efforts into the institution’s intellectual, cultural, and social fabric by directing service and engagement teams, overseeing placemaking and facilities planning, and leading outreach and user experience. The role manages a total of 24 FTE and will collaborate closely with library colleagues and key campus partners to advance shared goals. The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) or a position-specific degree and experience, along with at least 7+ years of progressive experience in libraries or other institutions with significant public services and demonstrated leadership responsibilities. Strong experience is expected in frontline or public services, facilities, placemaking, or space planning, and community outreach and engagement.
