Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Governance
- Own the multi-year technology roadmap for core platforms, architecture modernization, premise and cloud strategy, security posture, and engineering capabilities.
- Partner with product and business leaders to prioritize technology investments based on mission impact, risk reduction, reliability, and long-term value creation.
- Identify and manage technical debt as an enterprise risk, balancing near-term delivery needs with long-term platform health.
- Shape build-vs-buy, modernization, and vendor strategy to ensure ABA invests in capabilities that are sustainable, extensible, and aligned with strategic priorities.
- Establish value-based technology planning practices that connect engineering work to measurable business outcomes, stakeholder experience, operational reliability, and future readiness.
- Drive organizational change by championing innovation and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Enforce technology governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory, security, and ethical standards.
- Manage the IT development and operations budget, including software licensing, vendor contracts, and capital planning.
- Evaluate software investments through a return lens — ensuring systems are built to last, extend, and compound value over time rather than depreciate through neglect, over-customization, or premature replacement.
Architecture & Technology Planning
- Establish enterprise architecture principles, standards, and decision rights that guide technology selection, integration patterns, data movement, security design, and platform evolution.
- Ensure architectural decisions to reduce complexity, improve interoperability, and create reusable capabilities across ABA systems.
Software Delivery & Quality Assurance
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Establish and enforce best practices in code management, security, performance, DevOps, and reliability engineering.
- Lead the adoption of AI-assisted development practices — including code generation, automated testing, and intelligent code review — ensuring teams use these tools effectively while maintaining quality, security, and intellectual ownership standards.
- Define and monitor KPIs across all functional areas; use data to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements.
- Manage vendor relationships and technology stack selection, including programming languages, frameworks, cloud platforms, and tools.
- Oversee quality assurance and ensure adherence to standards across all delivered systems.
Infrastructure & Technology Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight of infrastructure, network engineering, cloud operations, AV technology, digital equipment services, and AIME Center technology operations through subordinate leadership.
- Provide executive oversight of cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, technology risk mitigation, and business continuity planning activities in partnership with technical leadership.
- Ensure technology operations maintain appropriate service levels, reliability, security, and business continuity capabilities.
- Review operational performance metrics and support continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Support major infrastructure modernization and technology refresh initiatives.
Project & Portfolio Management
- Provide leadership and oversight for technology project planning, prioritization, execution, and resource allocation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Balance competing demands and optimize resource utilization across technology teams.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage technology operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee technology procurement, software licensing, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.
- Evaluate technology investments and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
- Participate in long-range financial planning and forecasting activities including managing the annual budgeting process for the IT department.
Leadership & Workforce Management
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth.
- Lead, inspire, and develop a multi-disciplinary team spanning software engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, DBA, and DevOps.
- Establish regular performance management, coaching, and leadership development practices to strengthen organizational capability and succession readiness.
- Support talent acquisition, succession planning, employee engagement, and professional development.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration among technology teams and business stakeholders.
Additional Requirements

- Occasional Saturday availability required (approximately 2–4 days per year) to support examination events.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs and sit for extended periods (6+ hours/day) as needed during on-site days.
