Assistant Director of Financial Aid

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid will report to the Director of Financial Aid and will assist with the effective operation of the financial aid office, managing and disbursing federal aid, state aid and private loan funds, and developing and recommending student aid policy. This position works with the student aid management system to maximize efficiency, works collaboratively with colleagues, and determines students' eligibility for the various financial aid programs. The Assistant Director promotes a positive image and teamwork in the financial aid office, helps assure accurate information is provided to students and parents, and assists with ensuring compliance and preventing institutional liability with federal and state programs. Must be able to work effectively with other departments and entities both internally and externally, needs a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations as they pertain to the programs administered by the office and consistently remains up-to-date on self-directed professional reading and trainings available. A team oriented approach and commitment to excellence in customer service is essential. The Assistant Director will help counsel students and families requiring excellent communication skills, problem solving, leadership, interpersonal, organizational and management skills. Attention to detail and accuracy are required.

Responsibilities include:

• Management and disbursement of federal aid, state aid and private loans
• Responsible for the daily processing of student aid forms in accordance with federal and state regulations (review for accuracy and completeness, verify information to determine eligibility of aid, research and resolve conflicting information)
• Evaluate and assist with making decisions regarding high level, complex policies and procedures as they relate to federal, state, institutional, foundation and private aid
• Interpret, apply and comply with federal, state and institutional regulations governing student financial aid maintaining current working knowledge of guidelines/regulations related to financial aid
• Prepare and disseminate communications related to aid eligibility and disbursement
• Work effectively and collaboratively within the financial aid office, other University departments and external entities
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Director

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional work experience in higher education, financial aid or a related field. Knowledge of federal regulations as they pertain to student financial aid. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, problem solving, organizational and accuracy skills. Be able to work collaboratively, effectively and encourage a team environment. Possess strong problem solving and analytical skills to manage multiple, time-sensitive projects. Demonstrated proficiency with software applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook). Exhibit dependability, professionalism, self-motivation and a strong work ethic.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a business-related field, knowledge of Banner financial aid management system and experience in college financial aid or student services. Experience with federal and state computer software systems (COD,NSLDS,ELM,FAMOUS).

Salary - The starting annual salary range for this position is $49,000 to $51,000.
