Job Summary: The Registered Nurse in the ICU provides skilled bedside care to critically ill patients in a 21-bed general intensive care unit. The nurse manages a typical 2:1 patient ratio, caring for patients with cardiac, neurological, neurosurgical, post-cardiovascular surgery, post-general surgery, medical ICU, and post-trauma conditions. This role requires strong clinical skills, effective communication, and collaboration within the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities: Provide direct bedside nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU. Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs and clinical status. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans. Document patient care activities accurately and timely in medical records. Respond promptly to patient emergencies and changes in condition. Educate patients and families regarding care and treatment plans. Maintain a safe and clean work environment adhering to infection control policies. Required Skills & Certifications: Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois. Minimum of 2 years ICU or critical care nursing experience. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Proficiency in medication administration and treatment planning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Preferred Skills & Certifications: Experience with cardiac, neuro, neurosurgical, and post-surgical ICU patients. Advanced certifications such as CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse). Familiarity with ventilator management and advanced monitoring equipment. Special Considerations: Work in a high-acuity ICU environment with a 2:1 patient ratio. Every other weekend shift requirement. No on-call requirements. Scheduling: Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
