Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dependable Roadside Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our mobile service team. In this role, you will be responsible for responding to service calls to diagnose, maintain, and repair a wide variety of heavy machinery directly at job sites or on the roadside. You will play a critical role in minimizing downtime for our clients by providing efficient technical solutions and ensuring that all equipment operates safely and effectively under various field conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Drive a service vehicle to various field locations to perform emergency and scheduled repairs.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical malfunctions on heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and loaders.
- Perform on-site repairs including engine diagnostics, hose replacements, and welding/fabrication as needed.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and safety inspections to ensure equipment longevity.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and hydraulic/electrical schematics.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of tools and parts on the service truck.
- Document all work performed, including parts used and labor hours, using digital reporting tools.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment on active roadsides and construction sites.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding repair status and estimated completion times.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, specifically with field or roadside service.
- Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic software and specialized hand/power tools.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in outdoor environments.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; a CDL is preferred but not required.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy components and work in physically demanding positions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or trade school certification in diesel mechanics is highly valued.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including on-call hours for emergency responses.

We also serve customers within a 100 mile radius of our shop, with roadside repairs to several of the surrounding remote areas.
