Custom Entry Writer
The Entry Writer is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs documentation for import shipments to ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations. This role manages end-to-end entry processing for air and ocean freight, supports timely clearance, and works closely with brokers, carriers, customers, and internal operations teams to facilitate smooth shipment execution. This is a great opportunity located near Schaumburg IL. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and transmit import entries for air, ocean FCL, and LCL shipments in compliance with all applicable customs regulations.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, tariff classifications, and shipping documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Set up and manage single-entry and continuous bonds as required for import transactions.
- Coordinate customs clearance activities and communicate with brokers, carriers, and internal teams to resolve issues or delays.
- Track and trace shipments to ensure timely clearance and final delivery, including proof of delivery documentation.
- Organize pre-alerts, establish shipment files, and prioritize workloads based on arrival schedules.
- Research tariff classifications, broker requirements, and regulatory guidelines to support compliance.
- Review and approve agent and broker invoices to ensure accuracy and adherence to agreements.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding clearance status, documentation requirements, and delivery timelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in logistics, supply chain, or international trade preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in customs entry writing, import operations, or freight forwarding.
- Working knowledge of air and ocean import procedures, customs clearance, and trade documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with customs brokerage systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Job Details:
- Contract to Hire
- Pay $20- $25 an hour, depending on experience
